Gladstone Vineyard is one of the most beautiful vineyards in New Zealand. Established in 1986, the vines sit on the old riverbed terrace of the Ruamahanga River. The Gladstone district is a fast growing wine area, as winemakers realise the potential of soil and climate that produce low yielding rich concentrated grapes.

The Vineyard is owner operated by Christine and David Kernohan who took over the vineyard in February 1996. Both born in Glasgow, Scotland, they emigrated to New Zealand over 20 years ago. Christine is Managing Director and Wine Maker while David has recently retired from lecturing at the School of Architecture VUW , and is now in private practice interested particularly in heritage conservation. He spends his weekends serving wine!

Principal plantings are Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and the Bordeaux reds - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Franc. There are 10 acres of producing vines.

The winery handles about 40 tonnes of grapes, or about 2,500 cases of wine. In the Spring of 2000 we began planting 25 acres at our Dakins Road block. We expect the development to be finished around 2002. This new block will provide more of our existing varieties and also our own Pinot Noir.

Outdoor and sheltered dining, from Labour Weekend to the end of March. Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 11am to 3pm.
