Gary and Valley NEALE

Brightwater Vineyards was established by us in 1993 upon our return from 10 years living and working overseas. We brought with us a passion for great wine and a desire to produce wines of true elegance.

As a first step we spent five years growing grapes for two premium Nelson wineries. That period provided us with valuable insight into the capabilities and potential of our vineyards.

In 1999 we embarked on the second step of producing wines under our own "Brightwater Vineyards" label. The experience with our vineyards was put to good use in determining the optimum style for each of our Brightwater Vineyards wines.Our company's philosophy is:
"Brightwater Vineyards are dedicated to producing individual, well-crafted wines that display true fruit character, elegance and fine balance."

Valley has a background in investment banking which has been most useful in helping the company develop from establishment to contract growing through to boutique winery.

She is also an active mother of Sophie (10 years) and Joshua (8 years) and is Chairperson of the Hope Primary School Board of Trustees.
Gary's background is in land surveying. In 1999 he graduated in winemaking from the Eastern Institute of Technology in Hawkes Bay. He is now fully occupied in the management of the vineyards and the overseeing of the winemaking
