Peninsula Estates philosophy is simple.To make world class, premium red wine. Wine that can be cellared confidently for many years, wine to be enjoyed with good food. We believe that great wine is made in the vineyard with careful canopy management and an eye to detail. Our wines are truly handcrafted.

Located on Waiheke Island and situated high on a northern point which juts out into the Hauraki Gulf, Peninsula Estate is one of the most picturesque vineyards in New Zealand. To the east are the sands of Oneroa Bay, to the North Rakino Island and the Americas Cup course, and to the west, Auckland city lies hazy in the distance, some 35km away.

Waiheke Island enjoys a warm, dry ripening season, and the combination of the maritime influence on the climate and good drainage has helped produce the wines that give the Island an international reputation for Cabernet. We believe that syrah is another variety that has a big future on the island.

The original vineyard was planted in 1986/87 and has seen production spanning 3 decades. The origanal plantings of cabernets sauvignon and franc, merlot and malbec have since been expanded to 12 acres in total, which now includes syrah, viognier and petit verdot.

Even though Peninsula Estate is a small vineyard, we have our own winery facility and winemaker - Chris Lush. Chris has been with Peninsula Estate since 1992, and with a degree in Viticulture and Oenology, knows exactly what he wants and needs to make the wines of our philosophy.

Peninsula Estate intend to remain focused on making estate grown and bottled wines, to ensure 100% control over the quality and style of our wines.
