cabernet sauvignon 64%, syrah 25%, merlot 11%
Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Estate Grown, produced and bottled
13.3% alc
This vintage is the first time that syrah has been added to the blend, a first for Waiheke.
We believe this is the best Oneroa Bay in 10 years with great complexity, particularly in the mid palate. At 25% of the blend, the varietal character of the syrah is quite apparent with its spiciness and berry flavours, and is complimentary to the ripe cabernet and merlot. The plum and cherry flavours offer a nice fruit tang, and with 12 months in oak a good structure gives the wine an Italian feel rather than classic Bordeaux.
Oneroa Bay is drinking well now, and will continue to do so over the next few years.
