Oyster Bay Merlot is about elegance and the intensity of gloriously ripe fruit. The wine comes from 3 to 11 year old spur pruned vines grown on favoured Hawkes Bay river terraces. The Hawkes Bay region, with it's superb mix of soils over gravelly free draining sub soils and temperate climate with ample sunshine, is superb for classic, classy Oyster Bay Merlot.
Winemaking techniques are largely traditional, with a selection of new and older oak, combining to offer structure, complexity and persistence to the wine.
There is a wonderful burst of richness with spice and soft tannins on the palate and the touch of subtle oak gives lifted spice, softness and extra warmth to the length of the wine.
