Overview:
Four classic varieties, (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Malbec), blended to produce a wine reflecting the unique environment of the Gimblett Gravels sub-region. 2002 was a fantastic vintage for red varieties - great colour, fruit intensity and structure.
Region:
Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay
Winemaker:
Adam Hazeldine
Recommended Food:
Enjoy it with a whole scotch fillet idealy cooked on the bbq. Also would make a good partner for ratatouille.
Recommended Cellaring:
2-5 years
Production Notes:
The grapes were harvested separately at optimum ripeness. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-over and/or plunging. The various components were then left on skins to macerate - this aids tannin development. The wines were then run off into a mixture of French and American oak. After 12 months in barrel, with frequent rackings, the wine was blended, egg-white fined, and bottled.

Reviews:
"Showing very good depth and complexity, this is a merlot-based red, with good dollops of cabernet sauvignon and syrah and a bit of malbec. Matured in French (mostly) and American oak barriques, it's a fresh, vibrant wine with good weight, strong red-berry, plum and spice flavours, ripe tannins and a peppery, lingering finish."
