A sweet, almost floral, honey and hazelnuts nose is the first impression of this best-ever release of Petrie Chardonnay. There is a crisp, flinty, mouth-watering appeal - helped no doubt by the zingy acid as well as the perfect harmony of fruit, lightly toasted oak and winemaking influence. Grapes are sourced from a very low-yielding vineyard owned by the Petrie family, 20 minutes drive north of Martinborough on river terraces at East Taratahi. The wine carries the WAIRARAPA version of our logo to differentiate it from wines made from wholly Martinborough fruit. $25
