> Review this wine
A little early vintage rain followed by continuing warm dry weather proved to be the ideal conditions for the promotion of some "Noble Rot" in the Riesling block - enough to tempt John into creating our first Botrytised Selection wine for about a decade.
The fruit was allowed an extended hang time and contained a high proportion of botrytis shrivel which is reflected in a harvest brix of 30 degrees and a residual sugar at bottling of 103 grams/litre, total acid of 9.5 grams/litre. The raisined little bunches did not contribute much in the way of volume, but they certainly gave us a marvellously concentrated unctuous wine.
Close your eyes and think about lemon meringue pie with a well cooked crust served with Crme Fraiche. This wine has all these notes on the nose as well as spicy pears, honeydew melon and citrus zest.
Tantalising to smell and thoroughly charming to drink. It is the elegance and dancing palate encompassed in the wine which makes it amenable.
Drink it lightly chilled before dinner.perhaps with a little Foie Gras and toasted brioche.
