> Review this wine
This wine is inspired by the classical French approach to Pinot Gris. Beautifully ripe fruit has given the wine sophisticated fruit perfume aromas, reminiscent of pears and stone fruit. Fermentation in old barrels has helped the wine to develop both texture and complexity at an early stage.
The wine is a true reflection of both Martinborough's unique terroir and the skills and experience of winemaker Larry McKenna. The grapes were harvested by hand from the Station Bush Vineyard. The wine will develop in the cellar for up to five years.
The Escarpment vineyard is planted on alluvial gravel terraces at the foot of the Aorangi mountains. There, the legends tell us, the Maori navigator Kupe abandoned three canoes after discovering the new land that his wife called Aotearoa and we now know as New Zealand. Kupe's image features on our label and his pioneering journeys inspire our winemaking.
Escarpment is a partnership between the Kirby and McKenna families.
